“Writers won’t be successful unless they pick a niche.”
Are you tired of hearing this advice?
As of this writing, I’ve shared the stories of 27 successful multi-niche writers. And there are many more. Here’s one such author who might inspire you to ignore the dime-a-dozen advice and encourage you to embrace your MultiTalented personality: Isabel Allende.
Isabel Allende has sold over 74 million books in various genres. She writes magical realism, as seen in her novels City of The Beasts and The House of The Spirits (among others). She also writes mystery novels, such as Ripper. But that’s not all. She has also written a memoir—Paula. Want more? She’s written historical fiction, such as Inés of My Soul, A Long Petal of the Sea, and more.
Isabel Allende: Multi-Genre, Multilingual
Not only is Isabel Allende a multi-genre writer, she’s also a multi-language author, having written books in Spanish as well as English. Her works have been translated into 30 different languages.
I’d say Allende is a pretty successful writer, and she didn’t have to stick to just one genre to get to where she is today. So if in your heart, you’re not a commitment person when it comes to writing genre, write it all. Make your heart happy and get those words on the page. Just be sure to pick something to get started, or you might never.
