I enjoy creating these because they’re a snapshot of how my brain works. I’m constantly making connections between topics, and my brain often jumps around between seemingly unrelated things. But once I put pen to paper or marker to dry-erase board, I can show how my brain works and why these connections make sense. Being able to make these connections has allowed me to freelance for a software as a service company without previous experience in the industry—because I was able to show that my experience in the health industry could be applicable and valuable to that company. There are many other examples like this.
My favourite tool for creating mind maps will always be a simple dry erase board and markers, but if you prefer to create yours digitally, I highly recommend WiseMapping.
